Redefining Periodontitis Treatment: A Novel YSGG Laser-Resective Protocol for Predictable Pocket Elimination

Despite decades of advancement in laser dentistry, the treatment of periodontitis still lacks a standardized, evidence-based surgical protocol, particularly one that leverages laser technology in a resective capacity. While many clinicians have focused on laser-assisted treatment of peri-implantitis, the foundational challenge of effectively managing periodontitis remains unresolved. Numerous lasers—CO₂, diode, Nd:YAG, Er:YAG, and Er,Cr:YSGG—have been explored, yet differences in wavelengths, energy delivery, and clinical applications have contributed to wide variability in outcomes and limited the development of consistent clinical guidelines.

This presentation introduces a novel surgical protocol using the Er,Cr:YSGG laser designed specifically to meet the core objectives of pocket elimination surgery: ensuring adequate access for thorough removal of etiologic factors, enabling precise osseous contouring, and establishing a cleansable, maintainable environment for long-term periodontal health. Unlike prior studies that mischaracterize lasers as primarily regenerative tools or limit their use to non-surgical contexts, this protocol embraces the Er,Cr:YSGG laser’s resective potential—using its distinct wavelength and water/air-mediated energy delivery to promote effective decontamination and minimal invasiveness.

Drawing from a case series, this protocol demonstrates how laser technology can be systematically applied within a biologically grounded, minimally invasive surgical framework. It addresses current gaps in the literature by aligning clinical technique with surgical goals, and reframes the role of lasers in periodontology—not as experimental adjuncts, but as central tools in achieving predictable, long-term outcomes in natural dentition.

Dr. Marino Sutedjo (Indonesia) — Endodontics

Firing Up Endodontics: The Power of Laser in Endodontics

Firing Up Endodontics: The Power of Laser in Endodontics is a comprehensive lecture designed to illuminate the expanding role of laser technology in contemporary endodontic practice. As the demand for more efficient and predictable increases, the integration of laser-assisted techniques into endodontics represents a significant advancement in both clinical outcomes and patient care.

This session will compare traditional endodontic disinfection protocols with laser-enhanced methods, highlighting how lasers can achieve better bacterial reduction, particularly in complex root canal anatomies and dentinal tubules where conventional irrigants may fail to penetrate.

Special focus will be placed on the clinical applications of lasers in various phases of endodontic therapy, including access cavity, canal sterilization and gingival management. Through real-world case presentations and evidence-based research, participants will gain insight into how lasers can improve clinical efficiency, reduce post-operative pain, and shorten treatment times.

This lecture is designed for endodontists, general practitioners, postgraduate students, and dental professionals with an interest in cutting-edge techniques, this lecture offers a unique opportunity to explore how embracing laser technology can elevate the standards of endodontic care transforming challenges into more predictable outcomes.

Dr. Jerry C. Lin (Taiwan) — Perio/Implantology

Laser-assisted Bone Regeneration around Implants with Peri-Implantitis & Teeth with Periodontitis

Dr. Salah Al-Methin (Kuwait) — Cosmetic Dentistry

Redefining Periodontics: YSGG Applications in Modern Periodontal and Aesthetic Dentistry

This presentation explores the versatile clinical applications of the YSGG laser in periodontology, focusing on procedures such as gingivectomy, gingival depigmentation, frenectomy, aesthetic crown lengthening, bone grafting, implant site preparation, and root coverage. A detailed, step-by-step breakdown of aesthetic crown lengthening will be provided, highlighting how laser-assisted techniques preserve tissue integrity and improve gingival symmetry.

A highlight of the session is the introduction of Black Triangle YSGG Repair (BTYR), an innovative laser-based technique designed to address interdental papilla loss and improve smile aesthetics. While centered on periodontal therapy, YSGG laser use also enhances treatment outcomes across orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry by improving tissue handling and healing.

By the end of this presentation, supported by a series of clinical cases, attendees will be prepared to apply advanced, minimally invasive techniques that enhance clinical precision, aesthetic outcomes, and overall patient satisfaction. They will also gain a clear understanding of the laser’s interdisciplinary benefits—recognizing that YSGG technology is not merely an adjunct, but a fundamental tool in modern periodontal and aesthetic dentistry.

Dr. Carlos Pérez Roig (Spain) — Prosthodontics

Ceramic Veneers and Laser Debonding: From Planning to Safe Removal

This lecture offers a comprehensive overview of ceramic veneer treatment, focusing on the key stages of case planning, conservative tooth preparation, adhesive cementation, and management of anterior ceramic restorations. Emphasis is placed on diagnostic tools, esthetic planning, and minimally invasive techniques that enhance long-term function and aesthetics.

A significant part of the session will address how to approach cases where restorations need to be removed, whether for esthetic revisions or biological concerns. Special attention will be given to laser-assisted veneer debonding—a modern, minimally invasive technique that allows for safe and efficient removal of ceramic restorations without damaging the underlying tooth structure. This lecture aims to equip clinicians with practical protocols for each step of the veneer journey, from bonding to debonding.

Clinical Merits of Er,Cr:YSGG Compared to Er:YAG in Daily Practice

The introduction of dental lasers and their role in hard and soft tissue management has been extensively studied and applied in daily practice. Hard and soft tissue lasers are commonly used nowadays by many practitioners in various dental fields and specialties.

The Erbium group of lasers known as all tissue lasers have been widely used in different branches of dentistry and dermatology. The two famous forms of the erbium group include the Er:YAG and the more recent Er,Cr:YSGG. Both forms of laser have similar applications and are usually used interchangeably. The main difference between both lies in the slight difference in wavelength with a resultant significant difference in laser tissue interaction.

Different wavelengths are currently available for both hard and soft tissue lasers. The difference between them might not be clear to the practitioner. The current presentation will highlight the erbium group of lasers from a clinical point of view, stressing the merits of using the Er,Cr:YSGG through different case presentations and clinical studies and reports.
